How to Get Started Racing

______________________________________________

I'm intrested in racing go karts... what do I need to know?

We at Millennium Motorsports live, eat, and breathe go-kart racing. We love our family orientated sport and strive to encourage competitiveness and fair-play. Our drivers are men and women, boys and girls from ages 8 and up. If you are intrested in kart racing we invite you to come and check out a few races and talk to our drivers. Our drivers are proud of their karts and most will be happy to show them off and answer your questions. Also check out our karters links - It contains links to pages with loads of valuable information.

The next thing to do is develop a budget. Besides the kart you will also need some safety items, such as a approved helmet, karting jacket/suit and helmet. Many racers start with used gear purchased locally from our shop, private individuals, or even Ebay. New gear has the advantage in that new usually has the latestest features. Feel free to ask about the equipment you are planning to purchase, we may be able to help you avoid some pitfalls.

What do use for a chassis/motor?

Both the Animal Stock and the Junior Animal Class run on an oval kart chassis using the Briggs and Stratton Animal motor.

How much should I plan to spend?

We get asked this alot. This is a average chart... remember used karting gear does hold a good resale value.

New Kart w/motor $2700 - $3500

Used Kart w/motor $800 - $2000

Kart Suit/helmet $250 - $300

Do I need to be a mechanic?

No not all. It does help to be a little mechanically inclined. You will need a basic set of tools. There are lots of great resources for information on the Internet. Search google, you'll be suprised what you'll find! We we some great local people who's business is to not only help you get your motor top notch, but can also help you scale and dial-in you kart to your driver. The motto of one of our top drivers is "setup wins races..." and it is true!

I have two children can they share a kart?

Besides the fact that they would need to race each other in the same class... Here are some other reasons. Every kart is setup to the needs/weight of the driver and driving styles for best preformance. With that in mind it is not always the best option to share karts.

How fast do they go?

How fast a kart can go completly depends on how big the track is and how well the karts are setup. Driver ability also plays a big role on maintaining speed. At Kinross my average speed for a 1/4 mile has been 55-65 mph. Junior classes will do less and take longer to get up to speed because of a restricted motor. Top speed at our track is greatly influenced by chassis setup and driver skill. Unlike cars at Kinross Speedway, we are never off the throttle.
